Do you believe God can move mountains or do you pray “safe” prayers to avoid putting everything in His control?
Do you believe that no matter what happens in your life Jesus is enough to get you through?
Nestled in the verses of John 11 is the story that chronicles the death of one of Jesus’ dearest friends, Lazarus. We read of the pain and suffering Lazarus’ sisters, Mary and Martha, endured and then we learn how Jesus brought Lazarus back to life.
Many people questioned how Jesus, who had become widely known for His teachings and His ability to heal, could stand idly by and allow His friend to die. And then Martha, who knew how much Jesus loved her brother, questioned why Jesus would want to take away the stone blocking the entrance to the cave where the body of Lazarus lay.
Very different questions from people with very different mindsets. One was a question of character, while the other was a question of confusion. But both were questions that revealed wavering faith.
Faith does not test the power of Jesus. Faith believes in His power before it is revealed.
Faith is messy and confusing.
Faith doesn’t fit neatly into our carefully planned schedules and it doesn’t make much sense.
But faith is very real and faith will draw you closer to God.
Referring to faith and obedience, Oswald Chambers once stated, “I know when the proposition comes from God because of its quiet persistence. When I have to weigh the pros and cons, and doubt and debate come in, I am bringing in an element that is not of God, and I come to the conclusion that the suggestion was not a right one.”
In what situations do you find yourself weighing the pros and cons rather than accepting His call?
How are you questioning God to logically determine how His command fits into your life?
Where is your faith?
