Who is the Holy Spirit?

You know that guy you met a while back and thought was a complete quack, so much so that whenever you heard he would be at a get-together you second-guessed if you really wanted to go because you knew they would see you and start a conversation? Then, under the strangest circumstances, you found yourself hanging out with mutual friends and you were reintroduced, and after a night of good conversation and a couple “your mom” comebacks, you realized they weren’t so bad after all. You may even be friends now.

To most people the Holy Spirit is a distant figure, someone who comes with God and Jesus as part of the package, but you’re not quite sure what to with Him. If you missed Senior Pastor Jim White’s message this past weekend (and maybe even if you were present), there's a good chance you have a few questions about the Holy Spirit. These in no way can be answered by “summing up” His qualities, but hey, you gotta start somewhere:

The Holy Spirit is a Person
2 Corinthians 13:14, John 14:17

The Holy Spirit is God
Acts 5:3-4, Romans 1:4, Romans 5:5

The Holy Spirit lives in us
1 Corinthians 12:7, 2 Corinthians 3:18, Galatians 5:25

The Holy Spirit is a counselor
John 14:25-26, Psalm 143:10

The Holy Spirit is missional
John 15:26-27, Acts 1:8, Matthew 28:19, Ephesians 3:16-19

The Holy Spirit is a convicting Spirit
John 16:7-11, 1 Thessalonians 1:5

The Holy Spirit has His own mind, and He prays for us
Romans 8:26-27

The Holy Spirit has emotions
Ephesians 4:30, Luke 10:21

The Holy Spirit is omnipotent, omnipresent, and omniscient
Psalm 139:7-8, Zechariah 4:6, 1 Corinthians 2:10

Consider this a re-introduction to the Holy Spirit. This, by no means, is an extensive list of qualities or verses, but He’s a pretty cool guy, and if you give Him the chance He’ll help you find that out for yourself.
